Portugalska scena muzyki ekstremalnej, bez wytchnienia wypluwa z siebie coraz to nowe, zwykle bardzo ciekawe twory. Nie inaczej jest z Phenocryst, który tylko oficjalnie jest młodym bandem, bo tak naprawdę składa się z doświadczonych muzyków z takich kapel jak Archaic Tomb, Summon czy też Concilium. Jednak muzyka, którą tworzą pod tą nazwą, jest zdecydowanie bardziej death metalowa niż ta, którą tworzyli/tworzą w swoich macierzystych formacjach. Phenocryst znacznie bliżej do klasycznego death metalu, ale takiego w stylu Dead Congregation czy też Incantation, czyli grania z dobrymi riffami, smolistą i mroczną atmosferą. Wszystko to dodatkowo podkreśla bardzo dobre, mięsiste, czytelne, ale mroczne i duszne brzmienie.
